What the Code Means

Your rights, protected.

The Retirement Living Code of Conduct exists to protect residents and hold operators to account — covering everything from how communities are marketed and sold, to how they’re managed day to day, and how residents are treated when it’s time to move on.

Commitment 1

Transparent, honest communication at every stage — moving in, living here, and moving on.

Commitment 2

Welcoming and acting on resident feedback, including an annual survey on facilities and services.

Commitment 3

Consulting residents before making any change that could significantly affect their finances, amenities or way of life.

Commitment 4

Maintaining clear, written policies on complaints handling, resident meetings, privacy and home access.

Commitment 5

Ensuring staff, property, safety and maintenance are managed to the highest standard.

Moving In

Starting on the right foot.

Moving into a retirement community is a big decision. The Code ensures that the process is transparent, that you understand exactly what you’re signing up for, and that the experience lives up to what was promised.

Living Here

Ongoing accountability.

The Code holds operators to a clear set of standards throughout your time in the community — from maintaining effective service arrangements to managing your home, your privacy and your day-to-day experience with genuine care and respect.

Moving On

Leaving with clarity.

When the time comes to leave, the Code ensures the process is handled with honesty, transparency and respect — for you, your family, and your estate. This includes clear communication throughout the resale process and timely payment of any exit entitlement once your home has been re-let or resold, in line with your contract and applicable NSW legislation.
